Paglalakbay: The Journey of the Sea People by Ballet Philippines
Ballet Philippines closes its 56th Season with a bold, original full-length ballet production, Paglalakbay: The Journey of the Sea People, depicting the prehistoric maritime migration that spread across the continent, reaching the islands of Batanes in 3000 BCE. Choreographed by Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director, Mikhail “Misha” Martynyuk, it dramatically bares through music and dance, the story of the journey that led to the “assimilation of, or interaction with, the indigenous populations” who inhabited the islands at the time. It follows Ama, a visionary leader who answers the ancient call of the sea and leads his people across vast, perilous waters toward an unknown horizon. Upon reaching unfamiliar shores, the voyagers encounter a land alive and vibrant with people who call it home. As cultures meet and destinies intertwine, the journey becomes a story of belonging, resilience, and legacy, where the call of the sea continues to echo across generations.
